Ethics

Ethics are important to me. Here is the code of Ethics/Code of Conduct of the NCAA Rules and Interpretations.

This is an excellent example sportsmanship in my sport:

Bobby Knight’s Coaching Intervention

My response to Bobby Knight’s coaching intervention is conflicted at best. On the pro side, Knight challenges that his team has an 8-10 so the anger and passion seems justified. On the con side, the outlandish profanity make the actual point of the intervention hard to follow, not to mention making a portion of the speech about how he personally appears in the league.

Ultimately, Bobby Knight is known for his aggression and swearing but he is also known as a winner and his players know it. His players know his reputation and also know that if you play for him you will more than likely be successful. At this level, competition is incredibly high and participation is completely voluntary. The bottom line becomes whether or not you can tolerate Knight’s coaching style. Personally, I would respond to this if my team had an 8-10 record; it would be time to get our act together. My coach bursting out at the team like this tells me that he cares about the game he is watching and wants to win it (even if the profanity throws me off at first).
